Lunders Donate Artwork Valued at More Than $100 Million to Colby

Paula and Peter Lunder, a Colby alumnus, have pledged a gift of approximately 1,150 artworks valued at more than $100 million to Colby College. The Lunders’ second legacy gift of art will establish the Lunder Institute for American Art at Colby College.

“For many years, we have been inspired and impressed by Colby’s teaching mission and the many ways that the museum is deeply integrated into the curriculum to become a vibrant part of college life,” remarked the Lunders, who received honorary degrees from Colby in 1998. “We are delighted that our art collection will be shared with future Colby students, the Waterville community, and visitors to Maine, and we know that Colby College will do a marvelous job enhancing the collection with their academic programs—we feel that Colby is the perfect home for our collection.”

In 2007, the Lunders pledged more than 500 works of art, including 464 by American artists, to the Colby College Museum of Art.
