Bloomberg Philanthropies Pledges $300 Million to Johns Hopkins

Johns Hopkins alumnus Michael Bloomberg announces a $300 million pledge from Bloomberg Philanthropies to create the Bloomberg American Health Initiative at Johns Hopkins. The gift from Bloomberg Philanthropies celebrates the the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bloomberg School of Public Health, which was renamed in 2001 to honor Bloomberg.

“I’m grateful and proud to have my name linked with the world’s greatest public health school. I’ve always supported Johns Hopkins just because it gives me great personal pleasure to be associated with faculty, researchers, and students who do such tremendous work on issues that really matter,” remarked Bloomberg, who served as the 108th Mayor of New York City and is the founder of Bloomberg LP, a global media and financial data enterprise.
